LA JOLLA COUNTRY DAY TORREY FOOTBALL TEAM TAMES ESCONDIDO'S WHITE TIGERS
The La Jolla Country Day (LJCD) Torrey football team defeated the Escondido Charter White Tigers, 42-3, in a non-league game played at Escondido Charter last Friday night, October 7. Country Day got on the scoreboard first on junior running back Sage Burmeister’s 19-yard touchdown run. That gave LJCD an early 7-0 first quarter lead. Later in the first quarter, junior kicker Hunter Kildjian opened the scoring for the White Tigers when he sent a 26-yard field goal whistling through the uprights to trim the margin to 7-3 in favor of the Torreys. Unfortunately for Escondido Charter (0-5), that’s as close as they would get on this evening as Country Day (5-0) pulled away down the stretch to clinch the victory. Burmeister would proceed to add three more touchdown runs of 7, 4, and 40 yards, respectively, and junior running back Colin McMahon managed to have touchdown runs of 18 and 6 yards of his own to pretty much seal it for LJCD.
