RSI: ROB STONE INTERVIEW WITH JUDY SPOELSTRA

Recently, Rob Stone sat down with Francis Parker hoops coach Judy Spoelstra to discuss their upcoming league games.

RS:  Who are your top players?

JS: I would say right off the bat there were a couple of players that established themselves as leaders on the court.

Jay Redmond
Jenell Anderson

However, in the last couple of games we have had four players in double figures scoring.  Balance is great!

RS:  What are the team's strengths?
I would say our defense is one of our strengths. We have multiple looks that we can show and we have been able to keep teams from scoring easy buckets. Our anticipation skills have gotten better and with that we create some offense for ourselves.

RS:  What are the weaknesses?

JS: I think the fact that many of them are new to basketball and just really need a lot of repetition at rebounding, defensive stance, running through sets so they know them like the back of their hand, talking on defense. These are typical things that young teams share.

RS:  Who are the top teams in your league?

JS: In our league, you have to look at La Jolla Country Day. I work at the school and I see daily the commitment that those girls put into their passion to play. Bishop's is also a strong team with hard-working players that play year-round.

The fact that both those teams are in our league is lucky for us to have the opportunity to play against such talent and to be able to challenge them and challenge ourselves to perform better.

Recently, Rob Stone sat down with Madison soccer coach Omar Vargas to discuss their upcoming league games. RS: Who are your top players? OV: This year's team has many top performers, but I would say I've been most impressed with the play of my central  dfielders FranciscoLopez and Orlando Figueroa.  Both have an uncanny sense of awareness on the field. RS: What are the team's strengths? OV: We have very controlled sense of play.  We've had high intensity games with high pressure, and mellow games.  But, we hardly ever seem flustered.
